This is New Life

Colossians 3:1-2; You were raised from death with Christ. So live for what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Think only about what is up there, not what is here on earth. Your old self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God.

I have tried several times to write a blog post for the past year. There are several “possible post” sitting in my drafts that have been left unpublished. It wasn’t until I read this during my devotion time, that I felt compelled to write & publish.

During my devotional time, God told me “Jannetta really listen as you read Colossians 3″…so of course I was eager. Immediately I read this verse and I knew God was speaking “this is what new life in Christ means”. So I wrote a very simple prayer in my journal that I feel God is leading me to share.

My journal entry & prayer:

“Lord, help me do everything with pure motives….to realize I am not living for fame/recognition. I am not living to have others see what I am doing here on earth BUT I am living for what is in heaven. Help me to seek what is above. I am not asking for more and more and …more. Help me seek what I can do to make you pleased…what more I can do to inherit the things above”.

So simple, and not “profound”. Honestly not sure why I feel compelled to share. However, this was a wake up call for me that God hasn’t called me to a life full of self seeking, greed, and earthly comforts. Praying this can touch any believer who needs the same wake up call. As Christ followers, we are all called to this new life. A life of reverence, holiness, with eyes focused on Christ above.
