Think about what you’re thinking about…

It sounds like a funny statement but it’s serious; Think about what you’re thinking about. I’ll be honest, I’ve failed at this. Especially this week. I’ve been racking my brain on what I wanted my next post to be about but I believe God wants me to write about this. Why in the world would God give me a topic to write about that I haven’t even begun to master? I have no idea! he’s funny! Let’s dissect this;

This statement came from Joyce Meyer. Specifically, it came from her book Battlefield of the Mind. Joyce presents the idea that in order to win the battle in your mind, you have to think about what we are thinking about. I have been failing at this because one, I haven’t been thinking about what I’m thinking about and two, I’ve been thinking negatively and not halting these thoughts.

Have you ever angrily played a scenario in your head about what your going to say if that “one person” crosses you again? Have you ever obsessed over what your significant other is not doing or should be doing? Have you ever woke up on a Monday and thought “ugh, here comes another miserable week”? If so, this statement is for you. A lot of the times, our negativity and hostile feelings are caused by our thoughts. Instead of stopping those negative thoughts in there tracks, we just continue down a spiral of anger, frustration, negativity or even depression.

How to change this? Stop yourself before you go down that hole! Think about what you are thinking about and CHOOSE thoughts of positivity. Instead of assuming the worst in someone, assume the best. Instead of putting your spouse/significant other down, think about the positives of their character and remember you aren’t perfect either! Instead of dreading Monday’s turn them in to MonYAYs! Thank God he woke you up to see another one!

Trust and believe, I have not mastered this yet but I want to. As I’m writing this, I’m fighting my own negative thinking. Maybe God wanted me to write this to help take my mind off of it. Again, he’s funny!

It’s so important to gauge your thoughts and realize that they have a significant impact on you. The Bible states;

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things”. Philippians 4:8

Think about your thoughts, if they don’t represent any of that, think again!

  1. Omg Mrs. Cox, can I just I tell you I needed this today. I woke with something on my mind obsessing over but you know it’s wrong thinking! I choose to worship GOD this morning, read and meditate. Thank you so much for this post! This is just AWESOME!
